LIEGE, BELGIUM 4/6/01

Another day trip, this time on a European bank holiday (second day of Pentecost - the English were hard at work).

This church was stunning from the outside (if, perhaps, a little rich for Protestant tastes) but closed.

Whereas this one, the church of Saint Jacques, was a grave disappointment from the outside.

Filthy dirty and with many of its stained glass windows missing or falling out, it was open though and, inside, it was a revelation.

Ornately decorated in the high gothic style, every corner was richly painted or filled with marvellous stone carvings and statues. This picture, borrowed from the church's own web site, doesn't really do it justice. If you want to see more, and it is worth it, go to http://www.multimania.com/muller/sj.
