Funding applications
New funding is the lifeblood of any organisation, especially in the
voluntary sector. The process of application and decision can be a
lengthy one. And that means putting in the time and effort to fire
off applications well ahead of your need for the money.
If you don't have the time or skills available in-house to maintain the momentum,
it can be worthwhile paying a skilled external person to do the job.
Although this might seem to mean spending the very money you need
to raise, an investment in making funding applications can produce
a substantial return in new grants and project funding. During my
years with SCODA, I secured project grants and contracts worth ten
times my salary - and fundraising was just one part of my job.
There is no guarantee - applying for funding is always a gamble. But you
can increase the chances of success by identifying the right funders
and carefully crafting your applications to appeal to their particular
interests and concerns. My success in securing grants for SCODA came
from applying these principles. And you can benefit from my experience
and the skills I learned by using me to prepare your own taylormade
funding applications.
